Hi! I'm Alison, an experienced audience editor with a proven track record of connecting young and emerging audiences to in-depth storytelling across platforms.
I was previously an audience editor at The Kansas City Star, where I oversaw a four-person audience team and four-person visuals team. I'm an expert at guiding teams through breaking news cycles, designing social media strategy that pops and communicating actionable audience insights to newsrooms. At my core, I’m a collaborator — I strive to build bridges across functions of a newsroom. I help editors and reporters understand why audience journalism is integral to our future and our readers.
Originally from Shawnee, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, I graduated from Northeastern University in 2022 Cum Laude, with a combined degree in journalism + interaction design.
I'm passionate about spreading local news on platforms that target younger audiences, and giving journalists like myself beautiful platforms to tell their stories. I strive to highlight stories from underrepresented communities, whether that's breaking down the history of Kansas City's now-defunct lesbian community on TikTok or helping highlight the urban cowboys on a mission to change KC's historically violent reputation on Instagram.
When I'm not in the newsroom, you can probably finding me watching every soccer game from the weekend (NWSL, Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, you name it), reading a fantasy novel with my cat or walking around my neighborhood, near the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City, with my girlfriend.
